𝐂𝐀𝐓 stands for Certified Accounting Technician, a stand-alone vocational qualification under the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (𝐀𝐂𝐂𝐀) to develop qualified accountants below the chartered level. The purpose of the CAT syllabus is to provide the student with the knowledge and understanding needed to underpin the accounting technician’s role. The structure of the syllabus is designed to assist learning and understanding and to ensure that students develop an appreciation of the development and interdependence of subjects.
An 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐧 performs general 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 duties such as preparing monthly bank reconciliations, recording revenues, investments, and bad debts, reconciling accounts receivable customer billing, preparing adjusting entries and schedules, and performs other related duties as required.
Accounting technicians work in similar settings to 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬 but focus on the more technical requirements of 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠, and will often work under the supervision of a qualified 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭.
𝐂𝐀𝐓 (Certified Accounting Technician) would be a track that allows you to start your pursuit of 𝐀𝐂𝐂𝐀 right after your 𝐇𝐒𝐂 & 𝐎/𝐀 -𝐋𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥.
As a qualification on its own, it preps you for a supporting role in accounting in the workforce, equipping you with a strong foundation in financial and management accounting so that you can solve basic accounting problems.
