MA1 – Management Information

Course Description
MA1 Management Information aims to develop a candidate their knowledge, understanding and ability of providing basic management information to support management in planning and decision-making in an organisation. It is designed to give a candidate the knowledge of basic cost information required for management accounting.
The syllabus is designed as such that introduces candidates to basic costing principles and techniques and the tools with which to use these principles and techniques.
It starts by introducing business organisations and the specific role of management accountant within the organisation. As it goes along, cost classifications followed by the identification of sources of information and coding and basic techniques for recording costs, are incorporated to ensure that cost information is properly “ACCURATE”. In addition to that basic presentation of management information using tools and techniques (spreadsheets) are also designed to develop one in being a total support to management.
This course will lead candidates to progress through three discrete levels; Introductory, Intermediate and Advanced. Progressive related papers are MA2, FMA (F2), F5, and P5.
Learning Outcome
On successful completion of this paper, candidates should be able to:
- Explain the nature and purpose of cost and management accounting
- Identify source documents in a costing systems and correctly code data
- Classify costs by nature, behaviour and purpose
- Record costs for material, labour and expenses
- Use spreadsheets in Microsoft excel
Certification
You won’t get a certificate for completing this course but if you want to be awarded the “Introductory Certificate in Financial and Management Accounting” you have to pass both the FA1 and MA1 examinations and successfully complete the Foundations in Professionalism module.
